CloudMe is yet another cloud-storage service for backing up files, sharing photos and streaming music. Install the service on your PC, and it adds a virtual folder on your desktop and in your favorite lists. The folder acts just as any other folders except that it automatically upload and sync the files that you put into your online account.
Cloudme Clients are available for almost all major mobile and desktop platforms. The file can be accessed from any device as long as it has a connection. Collaboration is also a feature, and the owner has some pretty advanced options for managing the files across many collaborations. From its web version, you can easily share a public link with your friends, and allow them to add their own files and collaborate on a set of files.
Links to files or folders can be shared on social networks such as Facebook, Twitter and Google Plus. CloudMe also supports sharing via Email, Instant Messaging or SMS.
With a free account you get 3Gb of storage. If you need more space, CloudMe offers 25 Gb for €4.90 per month, 100 GB for €14.90 per month and 500 GB for €49.90 per month. The best part: Refer a friend and get more space, up to a maximum of 16 GB- 500 MB for every friend who joins.
What do we think of it ?
The service features are quite basic. It does not keeps your files’ version histories like we’ve seen in Dropbox, and sharing a file link on its PC application is not convenient- to share a file link you need to access its web interface, and the web interface is not particularly user-friendly, but its layout and labeling make sense. On the upside, its web interface and mobile apps has a streaming music player, which is really good at handling your music files.
Overall, we think it’s a good service for backing up data but its interface for web version could be more user-friendly and sharing options for its desktop application can be improved further.
