Unless you are a team or a group of people writing news and latest updates around the globe, you should focus on the content which is “evergreen” or “timeless”. I often noticed that novice bloggers start off their blogging career by publishing news on their blog which is not a good long run strategy.
What is “timeless” or “evergreen” Content ?
Technically, a content or blog post that is “always fresh” and never goes out of date is called “evergreen” or “timeless”. The biggest advantage of “timeless” content is that it helps in driving traffic to a website for a long period of time- people will still read your blog for months or years after you stop writing as long as the content written by you is valuable for them.
In contrast, non-evergreen content is mostly related to specific events and news. Non- evergreen content loose its relevance with time. Some evergreen / timeless categories include: health, money, food and recipes, tourism, education and career.
I mostly focus on writing “timeless” posts like these “Take care of your eyes while working at the computer”. So if you want to be a tech blogger, I’ll suggest you to write tech tips, best-of lists and how to guides/ tutorials.
The web is crammed with websites and blogs that focus on writing “timeless” content. And, here are my favorite blogs/ websites which you may find extremely useful – Lifehacker ( lifehacker.com), Stepcase Lifehack(lifehack.org), Digital Inspiration (labnol.org), Problogger (Problogger.net), DailyBlogsTips (dailyblogtips.com) ghacks.net(ghacks.net), CopyBlogger (copyblogger.com), Smashing Magazine (smashingmagazine.com), IMDB(imdb.com), About.com(about.com), Search Engine Land (searchengineland.com) and Search Engine Journal (searchenginejournal.com).
