Google has added image triggered search to its image search engine, making web search more easier for users. It means, you can now search images with an image which I think really remarkable upgrade to Google image search. Lets explore Google Search by image and how it could be useful for internet users.
What is Google Search by Image ?
Google Search by Image is a new feature implemented in images.google.com that allow users to ask Google with a picture. This Google search feature work similar to the reverse image search engine, “TinEye” where search engine allow users to submit image as search query and get a pile of web results as well as related images. With the use of advanced image recognition technology, Google crawler will search and compare that image with color and components of other images indexed on Google servers to give best relevant results.
If you go Google Image search now and you will see a little camera icon in the search bar, the camera inside search box give you a clear indication you can use search by image feature. This camera icon allows users to input an image URL or upload an image to the search.
With Google images, you can actually search images stored on PC and online images. There are four ways to add an image as your query :
1. If the image already on the web, you can paste the images URL.
2. Upload Image from Desktop through the browser interface.
3. Drag and Drop images from Desktop.
4. Use Chrome and Firefox extensions, if you feel that you will likely to use this feature frequently. The browser extension make the process even faster – simply right-click an image on the website to search Google with that image.
Uses of Google Image by Search

Three things i noticed about results : First, it not only return visually similar images with different size, but also show the name of the object or people on search box along with the image added to search as query. Secondly, You can also guide search process by adding little description about the image on search box to more relevant results. Third, it made easy to find social profile of people on Facebook, MySpace, Twitter and wiki on Wikipedia (if available).
2. You will find this feature helpful in finding similar images with different size, resolution and quality.
3. Webmaster can use this feature as a tool to detect image plagiarism. Just add an image URL from your website on search box and you will see the copycats on web who have stolen your original content..
At last I want to say that this is one of the best feature of Google search which could and it seems like this new future implemented by Google Search could put pressure on Bing and TinEye .
