Did you ever thought to extract the recently played YouTube videos from browser’s cache ? If you like the idea, this workshop is for you.
YouTube is a video-streaming website that actually relies on a cache for playback. Played videos are added to the browser’s cache so the next time you want to play them, YouTube doesn’t have to stream them all over again. Most of you are probably aware about this but what you need to know is something you’ve never done before: its the method to extract recently played videos from cache. Here’s how:
Step 1. There is certainly no shortage of great stuff to watch on YouTube. After all, where else online your can watch your favorite TV shows. So just start watching a video on YouTube and don’t stop until you finish watching the entire video.
Step 2. When you want to extract that video from your browser’s cache. Go to Start menu, right-click on browser icon (we’re using Chrome in this tutorial) and then open properties. Copy the path of Chrome files from the Target box and open it in windows explorer.
Step 3. Inside the Chrome directory, you will see two folders namely, Application and User Data. Open the “User Data” Folder, then “Default” folder and finally the “Cache” folder.
The Cache folder is usually littered with lots of files, and you need to get it organized in order to find out your video. For this, right-click and sort the items according to “Date modified” and also arrange them in descending order so the recent played videos will come on the top in the list. Now, use the VLC media player to open and check the files in the cache folder. Since, the size of a video file should be large, so the start checking files according to the size.
When you found the cache file of your video, rename that file and add .flv extension to the end of the filename. Now copy your video file to your picture folder, movie folder or anywhere else on your PC.
